When Trainual does not fit a trade shop
Owners of small trade companies usually arrive at training software through the same route. Something went wrong, they searched for a way to document procedures, and the results were platforms built for onboarding office staff.
Those platforms are good at what they do. The mismatch is not about quality.
The assumptions that do not hold
General training platforms assume the reader is at a desk, logged in, with a company email address and a browser tab open. A field technician has none of those. He has a phone, dirty gloves, a customer waiting and intermittent signal.
They also assume onboarding is the main event, with content organized as courses and modules. In a trade shop the main event is the procedure for the job happening today, reached in fifteen seconds, ideally by scanning something on the van.
Per seat pricing in a high turnover trade
Field trades run high turnover. A per seat model means the bill moves every time someone joins or leaves, and it quietly penalizes the shop for hiring, which is the opposite of the incentive anyone wants.
What a trade shop needs instead
Short numbered checklists rather than courses. No account for the reader. Access without signal once the page has loaded. Templates written for the actual trade, since a generic onboarding template does not know what a flare torque value is. And a record built for the question an insurer asks rather than for a completion percentage.
Where a general platform still wins
If most of your headcount is office staff, or you need role based course libraries, structured knowledge bases and integration with an HR system, a general platform is the better tool and this is not a fair comparison.
The split is roughly this. Office heavy, growing headcount, structured onboarding: general platform. Field heavy, small crew, liability driven: something built for the field.
Keep the record, not just the paperwork
Copy any procedure on this page into your own documents at no cost. What Intulix sells is the part underneath: a signed, dated, version locked record of which technician read which version, exportable as a PDF when someone asks. Start free or see pricing from $59 a month.
